MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive provides you with hours of bicycling nirvana. Cruise up and down the entire length of Chicago’s famous Lake Shore Drive without a car in sight! Pedal as fast or slow as you want – it’s your ride! Take in the striking skyline as you breeze along sparkling Lake Michigan. Whether you are a racing star or you are bringing your family for a leisure ride, the MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive is the perfect way to kick off your Chicago summer!
MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive is supported by hundreds of volunteers ready to lend a helping hand. Don’t forget the rest stops and the post-ride festival. We can’t wait to see you!
Start location
Columbus and Jackson downtown Chicago
For the safety of all participants, riders must enter Lake Shore Drive at the start locations.
Remember! For your safety, for access to rest stops, and to easily find professional photos of yourself on the ride, rider numbers and helmets are required. Register your rider number and get notified as soon as photos are posted.
MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive takes place rain or shine. Refunds are not available.
Schedule
5:30 a.m.: Lake Shore Drive will open to bicyclists, upon police approval
9 a.m.: Bicyclists may not enter Lake Shore Drive; participants must be north of Randolph Street or south of Roosevelt Road
9:15-9:45 a.m.: Volunteers will help participants safely move to the Lakefront Trail, which they can take back to the post-ride festival
10:30 a.m.: Car traffic resumes on Lake Shore Drive
Post-ride festival
8 a.m. – noon
- All-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from Goose Island: $7 ($2 goes to the Active Transportation Alliance)
- Music, special activities for youth and families
- Sponsor booths
- Talk with Active Trans staff and learn about our work in your community
Registration
Registration is $45 ($40 for Active Trans members), which gets you access to hours of uninterrupted bicycling, volunteer support, access to rest stops and access to the post-ride festival. Sign up now! Youth registration available for $15 and includes an event T-shirt.
Online registration closes at noon on May 29. Day-of-event registration will be available for $55 and does not include a T-shirt. Day-of registration opens at 4:30 a.m.

Snazzy Ride competition
Have some fun with your group! Put together a team of 10-25 adults and enter our contest to win free 2011 Bike the Drive registrations for the entire team! The MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive Snazzy Ride contest wants to see what kind of themes, costumes and creative ideas you can bring onto a car-free Lake Shore Drive. Send photos of your team to teams2010@activetrans.org by June 6, 2010 and we’ll let you know if you made the cut. Most creative team costumes or theme will win! Runner up teams will also be recognized on our website and with assorted prizes.
