Make your ride great

Plan on arriving early! The event begins at 5:30 a.m., and we recommend starting no later than 7:00 a.m.
The earlier you start biking, the more you'll be able to enjoy!
Registered participants with rider numbers can start the ride at:
>> Columbus Drive and Jackson Drive
>> Bryn Mawr rest stop
>> Museum of Science & Industry rest stop
>> Fullerton check point
>> Oakwood check point
The round-trip distance encompasses 30 scenic miles, with the northern turnaround point at Bryn Mar Avenue and the southern turnaround at 57th Street. Bike as little or as much as you like during the event!
Feel free to take a break. There are three rest stops along the route where light snacks and water are provided. We provide the water, but please help keep our waste to a minimum by bringing your own water bottle.
You don’t have to start there, but the live music, breakfast and sponsor contests may entice you to end your ride at the post-ride festival at Butler Field near the central rest stop.
The event enlists hundreds of volunteers who will ensure that you’ll have the best experience possible. Also on hand will be SAG vehicles for riders who need support. A number of local bike shops will be on hand, as well, with services like free safety checks, and minor repairs, such as flat tires, etc. (shops may charge for parts and major repairs).

Necessary items

All riders receive a rider number, helmet number and wristband. These items MUST be visible while bicycling on Lake Shore Drive and shown at checkpoints and rest stops along the route to show you are a registered participant.
Be sure to prominently display your rider number at the event so that you can be identified for your photos! Register your rider number online at Marathonfoto and find your pictures. Marathonfoto will email you when your photos are accessible and you can order prints, posters, digital downloads, image CD’s and other custom gifts.
An official Ride Guide is included in your packet of materials, with map and timing for MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive.  Refer to this guide to help you maximize your Bike the Drive experience and prepare for your ride ahead of time.
